Survio is a dedicated survey system in SurveyTester. A project set to Survio (or to Automatic) recognises a Survio survey the moment the browser extension opens it: the welcome page, every page with its questions, answer options, matrix rows, scales, sliders and rankings, the warning Survio shows under a required question that was left unanswered, and the thank-you page at the end. From there everything else in SurveyTester works as usual - Auto Answer, Auto Complete, SurveyBots, test cases, issues and the Pages & Routing overview.
What a Survio survey looks like to a tester
A Survio survey runs at https://www.survio.com/survey/d/<survey id> - one address for the whole run. It usually opens
with a welcome page and a start button. Behind it, the pages of the survey sit side by side like slides: clicking the
continue button slides the next page into view in the same browser tab, without reloading. The questions are numbered
blocks with a title and an optional description; a back arrow in the footer returns to the previous page if the author
allows it. On the last page the button submits the answers, and the thank-you page appears.

Why this is hard to test without SurveyTester
- Every page is there all the time. Survio loads all pages of the survey at once and only slides the visible one into place. A generic tool reading the page sees every question of the whole survey at the same time. SurveyTester knows which slide is showing and records only that page as a test step - the welcome page, each question page and the thank-you page.
- Nothing reloads. Because the whole survey lives at one address, there is no new page to wait for. SurveyTester records a new step every time Survio moves to the next slide, and a backward step when the back arrow is used.
- Validation happens in the browser. A required question that is left empty keeps the page: Survio writes a short warning with a warning icon under the question (in a German survey "Erforderliche Frage"), and for a matrix with a minimum and maximum number of answers per row it says how many to choose. SurveyTester captures the warning and attaches it to the question.
- Widgets without plain form fields. The drop-down is a custom list, rankings are sorted by dragging and confirmed with Ok, semantic differentials are sliders, and the 100-point question splits points between items. SurveyTester reads all of them as questions with their options, scale points or items.

| 100-point split | The points are distributed between the items so that they add up to 100. |
Welcome page and thank-you page
- Welcome page. Recorded as the first step of the run, with nothing to answer. Its start button leads to the first question page.
- Thank-you page. Recorded as the last step after the answers have been submitted. Surveys on Survio's free plan do not show their own thank-you text; Survio displays a marketing page about Survio in a frame instead. SurveyTester recognises that frame as the thank-you page and labels it with the thank-you title the author set in Survio.
- End-page outcomes. Complete, screenout and quota outcomes are configured as for any other survey system, with survey end page identifiers on the project. See Survey end pages.
Step by step
- Create the project. Choose Survio as the survey system, or leave it at Automatic - the survey is
recognised either way. Paste the survey link (
https://www.survio.com/survey/d/...). - Start a test run from the project with the SurveyTester browser extension, or let SurveyBots run the survey. The SurveyTester bar appears above the survey, and the welcome page is recorded as step 1.
- Answer the survey by hand, or press Auto Answer and Auto Next to let SurveyTester fill the page and move on. Each page change creates the next step.
- Check the result on the Pages & Routing page: every page appears with its questions, every question with its answer options, rows, scale points or items, and every warning the survey showed during the run.

Good to know
- Question names. Survio gives every question and every option a numeric id. SurveyTester names a question
Qplus that id and uses the option ids as answer values, so the names stay the same when the author inserts a question in between or reorders options. - Password-protected surveys wait for manual input: a tester enters the password by hand in a test run with the browser extension, and the run continues from there.
